Chromium Trioxide Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average chromium trioxide export price stood at $2,994 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -2.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 an increase of 6.6% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,924 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($3,579 per ton) and South Korea ($3,505 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($2,673 per ton) and Brazil ($2,681 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average chromium trioxide import price amounted to $3,655 per ton, growing by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $3,751 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were South Africa ($3,871 per ton) and the United States ($3,588 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($3,000 per ton) and Turkey ($3,099 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chromium Trioxide Exports in China
For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in shipments abroad of chromium trioxides, which increased by 14% to 3.5K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +26.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +101.5% against 2019 indices.
