Chocolate and Confectionery Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average chocolate and confectionery import price stood at $5,718 per ton in June 2023, surging by 2.5% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($8,142 per ton), while the price for France ($4,918 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate and Confectionery Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average chocolate and confectionery export price amounted to $6,693 per ton, falling by -4.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 26% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,008 per ton in May 2023, and then contracted slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($13,619 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($3,980 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chocolate and Confectionery Imports in the UK
In 2022, chocolate and confectionery imports into the UK expanded notably to 630K tons, growing by 14% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chocolate and confectionery imports rose significantly to $3B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Chocolate and Confectionery Exports in the UK
In 2022, overseas shipments of chocolate and confectionery increased by 2.9% to 191K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced decline.
In value terms, chocolate and confectionery exports reduced modestly to $1.1B in 2022. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 4.2%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $1.1B; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
