Chocolate and Confectionery Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average chocolate and confectionery export price amounted to $4,837 per ton, growing by 2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 4.4% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,155 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,917 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($2,293 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Chocolate and Confectionery Price in Canada (CIF) - 2023

The average chocolate and confectionery import price stood at $5,116 per ton in June 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 22% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $5,590 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($8,092 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,793 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chocolate and Confectionery Exports in Canada

For the fourth year in a row, Canada recorded growth in shipments abroad of chocolate and confectionery, which increased by 1.7% to 454K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 6.7%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chocolate and confectionery exports expanded sharply to $2.1B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 10%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
