The average cereals; barley, seed import price stood at $607 per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $618 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($791 per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($316 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($756 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($446 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cereals; barley, seed imports fell slightly to $2.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 30%.
