Cereal Germ Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average cereal germ import price amounted to $455 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $657 per ton. From August 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($538 per ton), while the price for France stood at $339 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-2.7%).
Cereal Germ Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022
The average cereal germ export price stood at $654 per ton in 2022, rising by 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 88% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $928 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($10,753 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($440 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+76.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Cereal Germ Imports in Belgium
In 2022, overseas purchases of cereal germ decreased by -20.1% to 70K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 9.2%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 89K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cereal germ imports fell to $41M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $43M, and then dropped in the following year.
