Canned Pineapple Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average canned pineapple import price amounted to $1,493 per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,878 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($1,917 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($1,102 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Canned Pineapple Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average canned pineapple export price amounted to $2,748 per ton, jumping by 36% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($4,765 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($1,950 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Papua New Guinea (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned Pineapple Imports in Australia

Canned pineapple imports into Australia expanded significantly to 26K tons in 2022, with an increase of 13% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned pineapple imports soared to $44M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.3% against 2019 indices.
