Breakfast Cereal Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
The average breakfast cereal import price stood at $3,670 per ton in September 2023, shrinking by -4% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4,108 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($5,634 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($609 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Breakfast Cereal Price in Latvia (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average breakfast cereal export price amounted to $3,859 per ton, reducing by -4.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated resilient growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +6.2% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, breakfast cereal export price decreased by -10.3% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 54% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,301 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Finland ($6,523 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($3,143 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Breakfast Cereal Imports in Latvia
For the fourth year in a row, Latvia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of breakfast cereals, which increased by 1.2% to 6.4K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, breakfast cereal imports stood at $20M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Breakfast Cereal Exports in Latvia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of breakfast cereals, when their volume decreased by -11.4% to 3.8K tons. Overall, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +33.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 4.3K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, breakfast cereal exports declined to $11M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 15% against the previous year.
