Beer Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average beer import price amounted to $1.4 per litre, almost unchanged from the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1.4 per litre in February 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($3.8 per litre), while the price for Hungary ($132 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Beer Price in China (FOB) - 2023

The average beer export price stood at $729 per thousand litres in August 2023, rising by 3.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $731 per thousand litres in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($1.2 per litre), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($483 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Beer Imports in China

For the third consecutive year, China recorded decline in overseas purchases of beer, which decreased by -8.9% to 482M litres in 2022. In general, imports faced a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 738M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, beer imports reduced to $650M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 2.1%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $820M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Beer Exports in China

In 2022, approx. 480M litres of beer were exported from China; increasing by 12% on the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, beer exports soared to $327M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
