Artificial Graphite Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average artificial graphite export price amounted to $2,069 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 20% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,583 per ton. From November 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($6,997 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($697 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Artificial Graphite Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average artificial graphite import price amounted to $9,318 per ton, shrinking by -22.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated slight growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, artificial graphite import price decreased by -41.7% against March 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 45% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $15,979 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($14,979 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,695 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

For the fourth consecutive year, China recorded growth in overseas shipments of artificial graphite, which increased by 47% to 572K tons in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Artificial Graphite Imports in China
Artificial graphite imports into China shrank to 26K tons in 2022, reducing by -6.3% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 28K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, artificial graphite imports totaled $227M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
