Argon Price in Norway (CIF) - 2023
The average argon import price stood at $2.0 per cubic meter in August 2023, rising by 30% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 116% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in August 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($631 per thousand cubic meters), while the price for Germany stood at $532 per thousand cubic meters.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+4.4%).
Argon Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022
The average argon export price stood at $0.4 per cubic meter in 2022, falling by -3.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $0.5 per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Sweden.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Sweden amounted to -0.3% per year.
Argon Imports in Norway
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of argon decreased by -16.8% to 5.5M cubic meters in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 6.6M cubic meters, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, argon imports reduced rapidly to $2.6M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.3M, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Argon Exports in Norway
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of argon increased by 2.3% to 2.1M cubic meters in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 3.1M cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, argon exports contracted slightly to $892K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 5.4%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $977K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
