In December 2021, the average aluminium wire import price amounted to $3,662 per ton, picking up by 1.7% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2021 an increase of 32% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in December 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($5,552 per ton), while the price for Russia ($2,775 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average aluminium wire export price amounted to $4,063 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2021 an increase of 24% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,147 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to December 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($5,996 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($3,744 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Aluminium Wire Imports in Vietnam

In 2022, imports of aluminium wires into Vietnam expanded markedly to 30K tons, increasing by 7.8% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 48%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 33K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium wire imports fell to $94M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 48%.

In 2022, approx. 8K tons of aluminium wires were exported from Vietnam; which is down by -10.2% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 8.8K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium wire exports fell sharply to $25M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +27.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $31M, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
