In 2022, the average aluminium wire import price amounted to $2,702 per ton, falling by -6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 30%. The import price peaked at $3,395 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($10,671 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($2,064 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average aluminium wire export price stood at $8,881 per ton in 2022, which is down by -5.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $11,908 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($12,128 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($2,620 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Aluminium Wire Imports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, the amount of aluminium wires imported into Sri Lanka reduced rapidly to 4.1K tons, dropping by -29.9% on 2021. In general, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 149%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.9K tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium wire imports fell remarkably to $11M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 225% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $17M, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of aluminium wires was finally on the rise to reach 1.1 tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant contraction.

In value terms, aluminium wire exports skyrocketed to $10K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a precipitous contraction.
