Aluminium Wire Price in Japan (CIF) - 2022

The average aluminium wire import price stood at $4,373 per ton in 2022, growing by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,530 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($6,859 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($3,363 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium wire export price stood at $5,354 per ton in 2022, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 20%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,972 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($3,900 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of aluminium wires imported into Japan contracted remarkably to 9.5K tons, which is down by -24.2% against the year before. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 40%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
