In 2022, the average alkali metals; sodium import price amounted to $27,067 per ton, waning by -11.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $30,732 per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($36,650 per ton), while the price for Italy ($26,840 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average alkali metals; sodium export price stood at $883 per ton in 2022, waning by -61.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a significant contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 38%. The export price peaked at $20,571 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($15,856 per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro ($291 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (-3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Alkali Metals; Sodium Imports in Serbia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of alkali metals; sodia, when their volume increased by 132% to 160 kg. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn.
