Zcash Surges 7%, Outperforms Bitcoin After $25M Funding Round

According to a report from Yahoo Finance, the privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash has seen its value increase by approximately 7% over a recent 24-hour period. This gain surpassed a concurrent rise in the price of Bitcoin. The movement follows an announcement from the Zcash Open Development Lab regarding a new capital infusion.

The development group stated it secured more than $25 million in a Series A funding round. The investors involved include firms such as Paradigm, Andreessen Horowitz, Winklevoss Capital, Coinbase Ventures, and Cypherpunk Technologies. Several individual investors also participated.

ZODL was founded by a former chief executive of the Electric Coin Company. The organization continues work initiated at ECC, including development of a specific self-custodial wallet. Since the wallet's launch in 2024, the team reports the shielded transaction pool has grown significantly and that over $600 million in ZEC swaps have been processed since October 2025.

The full engineering team from ECC moved to ZODL earlier this year to continue developing the wallet as an open financial platform. The group also maintains a focus on core Zcash protocol development, with engineers previously responsible for the cryptocurrency's core systems now working at ZODL.

The organization stated the new capital will support growth, including adding engineering talent, and reflects investor confidence in the Zcash ecosystem. Zcash, launched in 2016 with design input from Edward Snowden, is engineered to provide greater transaction privacy than cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

After rising from a price around $50 in September to a multi-year high near $700 in November, Zcash has declined in recent months. It was recently trading at $215. Despite the daily gain, the cryptocurrency's value has decreased over the past month.
