Which Country Imports the Most Textile Machinery in the World?

In 2016, approx. 65K tonnes of textile machinery were imported worldwide; falling by -13.3% against the previous year figure. In general, textile machinery imports continue to indicate a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013, when import increased by 27% year-to-year. Global textile machinery import peaked of 92K tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, textile machinery imports amounted to $657M in 2016. In general, textile machinery imports continue to indicate a measured reduction. Over the period under review, global textile machinery imports attained its maximum level of $1.6B in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Textile Machinery Imports By Country

China (12K tonnes), Germany (11K tonnes), Italy (8K tonnes), Turkey (6.4K tonnes), and Japan (5.8K tonnes) represented roughly 66% of total imports of textile machinery in 2016. Switzerland (2.1K tonnes), Indonesia (2K tonnes), South Korea (1.9K tonnes), the UK (1.8K tonnes), the U.S. (1.6K tonnes), India (1.6K tonnes), and Viet Nam (1.4K tonnes) occupied the slight share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of textile machinery imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Turkey (+12.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($239M) constitutes the largest market for imported textile machinery worldwide, making up 36% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Turkey ($91M), with the share of 14% of global imports. It was followed by Japan, with the share of 6%.

In China, textile machinery imports decreased by an average annual rate of -5.0% over the period from 2007-2016. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates: Turkey (+5.9% per year) and Japan (+9.0% per year).

Textile Machinery Import Prices By Country

The average textile machinery import price stood at $10 per kg in 2016, falling by -24.0% against the previous year. In general, textile machinery import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when it surged by 62% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average textile machinery import price attained its maximum level of $23 per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was Viet Nam ($24 per kg), while Switzerland ($136 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of textile machinery import prices was attained by South Korea (+8.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
