In 2016, the global imports of fire protection amounted to 445K tonnes, dropping by -16.5% against the previous year level. Overall, fire protection imports continue to indicate a deep decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009, when imports increased by 26% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global fire protection imports reached its maximum volume of 2.5M tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, fire protection imports stood at $18B in 2016. Overall, fire protection imports continue to indicate a slight decline. Over the period under review, global fire protection imports reached its maximum level of $21B in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Fire Protection Imports By Country

China (67K tonnes), the UK (50K tonnes), Mexico (36K tonnes), the U.S. (31K tonnes), and China, Hong Kong SAR (27K tonnes) represented roughly 47% of total imports of fire protection in 2016. The Netherlands (18K tonnes), Germany (17K tonnes), Malaysia (11K tonnes), Singapore (10K tonnes), France (9.9K tonnes), Spain (9.2K tonnes), and the Philippines (8.9K tonnes) held the slight share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of fire protection imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (+41.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($3.4B) constitutes the largest market for imported fire protection worldwide, making up 19% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($1.4B), with the share of 8% of global imports. It was followed by China, Hong Kong SAR, with the share of 6%.

In the U.S., fire protection imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2007-2016. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates: Germany (-3.5% per year) and China, Hong Kong SAR (+2.8% per year).

Fire Protection Import Prices By Country

The average fire protection import price stood at $39 per kg in 2016, jumping by 17% against the previous year. In general, fire protection import price continues to indicate a prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when import increased by 331% from the previous year level. Global fire protection import peaked in 2016, and is expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($110 per kg), while the Philippines ($5,621 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of fire protection import prices was attained by the Netherlands (+67.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
