In 2016, the amount of phenol exported worldwide totaled 3.2M tonnes, going up by 7% against the previous year level. Overall, phenol exports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, when exports increased by 7% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global phenol exports attained its maximum volume of 3.7M tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, phenol exports totaled $4.2B in 2016. Overall, phenol exports continue to indicate a abrupt deduction. Global phenol export peaked of $6.8B in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Phenol Exports By Country

The exports of the eight major exporters of phenol, namely Belgium, South Korea, the U.S., Japan, Thailand, Singapore, the Netherlands, and Finland, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of phenol exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (+53.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest phenol markets worldwide were the U.S. ($589M), Belgium ($567M) and South Korea ($519M), together accounting for 39% of global exports.Japan, Singapore, Thailand, the Netherlands and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

Thailand (+44.9% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of phenol exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Phenol Export Prices By Country

The average phenol export price stood at $1,312 per tonne in 2016, reducing by -6.2% against the previous year. In general, phenol export price continues to indicate a moderate setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by 39% against the previous year level. Global phenol export peaked of $2,068 per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was the U.S. ($1,460 per tonne), while Finland ($774 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of phenol export prices was attained by the U.S. (-1.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
