Which Country Exports the Most Electrical Capacitors in the World?

In 2016, the global exports of capacitor totaled 424K tonnes, rising by 8% against the previous year level. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, an increase of 24% y-o-y. Global capacitor export peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, capacitor exports amounted to $22B in 2016. Overall, capacitor exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global capacitor export peaked of $27B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Capacitor Exports By Country

Malaysia (105K tonnes), and China (99K tonnes) represented roughly 48% of total exports of capacitor in 2016. Singapore (54K tonnes) held a 13% share (based on tonnes) of global capacitor exports, which put it in second place, following Japan (9%). Germany (17K tonnes), South Korea (13K tonnes), Indonesia (10K tonnes), the Netherlands (9K tonnes), Italy (8.7K tonnes), Czech Republic (8.7K tonnes), the UK (8.1K tonnes), and India (7.1K tonnes) held the mild share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of capacitor exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (+17.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($4.5B), China ($4B) and Germany ($1.1B) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, with a combined 43% share of global exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK and India, which together accounted for a further 20%.

India (+11.6% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the capacitor exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Capacitor Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for capacitor amounted to $53 per kg, going down by -20.5% against the previous year. In general, capacitor export price continues to indicate a temperate slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when export price increased by 11% y-o-y. Global capacitor export peaked of $85 per kg in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($118 per kg), while Malaysia ($7,683 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of capacitor export prices was attained by Indonesia (+6.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
