Which Country Exports the Most Curtains and Interior Blinds in the World?

In 2016, approx. 512K tonnes of curtains were exported worldwide; going up by 3% against the previous year figure. Overall, curtains exports continue to indicate a remarkable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009, an increase of 49% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, global curtains exports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, curtains exports amounted to $4.4B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, global curtains exports attained its maximum level of $4.8B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Curtains Exports By Country

China (352K tonnes) prevails in curtains exports structure, recording 352K tonnes, which was approx. 69% of total exports in 2016. India (18K tonnes), Mexico (16K tonnes), Poland (16K tonnes), Germany (14K tonnes), Pakistan (9.5K tonnes), and Turkey (9.3K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

China was also the fastest growing in terms of the curtains exports, with a CAGR of +17.9% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Poland (+8.4%), Mexico (+7.2%), and Germany (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Pakistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, India (-1.7%), and Turkey (-3.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (-1.6%), and China (-53.1%) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($2.2B) remains the largest curtains supplier in the world, making up 51% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mexico ($291M), with the share of 7% of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with the share of 6%.

In China, curtains exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2007-2016. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: Mexico (+12.5% per year) and Germany (+2.6% per year).

Curtains Export Prices By Country

The average curtains export price stood at $8,562 per tonne in 2016, shrinking by -5.9% against the previous year. Overall, curtains export price continues to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by 9% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, average curtains export price reached its maximum level of $16 per kg in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Mexico ($18 per kg), while China ($6,350 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of curtains export prices was attained by Mexico (+4.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
