In 2016, the global baryte exports totaled 4.2M tonnes, dropping by -18.7% against the previous year figure. In general, baryte exports continue to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when exports increased by 38% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global baryte exports reached its maximum volume of 6.6M tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, baryte exports stood at $587M in 2016. In general, baryte exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. Over the period under review, global baryte exports reached its maximum level of $953M in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Baryte Exports By Country

In 2016, China (1.6M tonnes), distantly followed by India (1.1M tonnes), and Morocco (556K tonnes) were the main exporters of baryte, together mixed up 77% of total exports. Turkey (166K tonnes), Mexico (153K tonnes), the Netherlands (108K tonnes), Thailand (101K tonnes), and Kazakhstan (96K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of baryte exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Mexico (+37.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($186M), India ($122M) and Morocco ($60M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together comprising 63% of global exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Mexico and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Mexico (+31.8% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the baryte exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Baryte Export Prices By Country

The average baryte export price stood at $141 per tonne in 2016, coming down by -7.2% against the previous year. In general, baryte export price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012, when export price increased by 33% from the previous year level. Global baryte export peaked of $152 per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was the Netherlands ($300 per tonne), while Mexico ($104 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of baryte export prices was attained by China (+11.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
