Which Country Exports the Most Acrylic Polymers in the World?

In 2016, approx. 7M tonnes of acrylic polymer were exported worldwide; going up by 10% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016, when export increased by 10% year-to-year. In that year, global acrylic polymer exports attained its maximum volume, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, acrylic polymer exports stood at $13B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Global acrylic polymer export peaked of $16B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Acrylic Polymer Exports By Country

The exports of the twelve major exporters of acrylic polymer, namely Germany, the U.S., South Korea, France, Japan, Belgium, China, the Netherlands, Singapore, the UK, Turkey, and Italy, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of acrylic polymer exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by South Korea (+18.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($1.9B), the U.S. ($1.7B) and Japan ($1.3B) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, with a combined 38% share of global exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, France, Belgium, China, the Netherlands, the UK, Singapore, Italy and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 47%.

South Korea (+14.8% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the acrylic polymer exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Acrylic Polymer Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for acrylic polymer amounted to $1,842 per tonne, going down by -12.6% against the previous year. Overall, acrylic polymer export price continues to indicate a measured deduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, an increase of 13% year-to-year. In that year, average acrylic polymer export price reached its maximum level of $2,607 per tonne. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average acrylic polymer export price failed to regain its strength.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was the UK ($2,300 per tonne), while Turkey ($1,066 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of acrylic polymer export prices was attained by Italy (+0.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
