USDA Daily Slaughter Cattle Report: Deliveries and Commitments for March 2026

The Agricultural Marketing Service released its daily summary of slaughter cattle data. According to the report, total delivered cattle for the day stood at 65,028 head, while total committed cattle, scheduled for slaughter generally within a week, reached 55,755 head.

For the week to date, cumulative delivered cattle were reported at 275,036 head, with committed cattle at 244,664 head. These figures show a decrease compared to the same period a week ago and a year ago for delivered cattle, while committed cattle for the week to date were lower than the week ago but higher than the year ago period.

Domestic deliveries to plants were categorized by purchase method. Formula purchases accounted for the largest portion at 63 percent, representing 37,820 head on a dressed basis. Negotiated purchases made up 20 percent, and negotiated grid purchases constituted 8 percent. Forward contracts represented 9 percent of domestic deliveries.

In terms of packer influence, the location of delivery was chosen by packers for 55 percent of domestic cattle, and the delivery date was chosen by packers for 81 percent. A small number of imported cattle were also delivered, primarily through negotiated grid and forward contract methods.

Geographic data indicates Kansas, Nebraska, and the Texas-Oklahoma-New Mexico region were major sources for delivered cattle. For committed cattle scheduled for future slaughter, the Texas-Oklahoma-New Mexico region, Nebraska, and Kansas also showed the highest head counts. The report also noted cattle numbers scheduled to be shipped out of their region of origin, with Nebraska and Kansas showing the most movement.
