UK Production Industries Data for January 2026 Released

The Office for National Statistics has published its Index of Production data for the United Kingdom covering January. The release details movements in the volume of production for several key sectors, including manufacturing, mining and quarrying, energy supply, and water and waste management.

These statistics, accredited as official, have been reviewed by the Office for Statistics Regulation. The assessment found the data complies with standards for trustworthiness, quality, and value. The figures are presented as seasonally adjusted to account for predictable fluctuations.

Accompanying the main index are several related datasets. These include detailed monthly index values for production and its main sector components, presented to four decimal places. The release also contains information on output, providing both index values and growth rates for production, manufacturing, and the main industrial groupings.

Additional data covers the turnover within production industries, breaking down total turnover into domestic sales and exports. This turnover data is presented in current prices and is not seasonally adjusted. Separate information details export proportions for manufacturing industries, collected monthly, quarterly, and annually at the industry level.

The publication includes methodological notes, such as a comparison of initial estimates for production and manufacturing against revised figures published twelve months later. It also reports the monthly response rates for the survey used to collect this data, broken down by business turnover and questionnaire type.
