Sweden's Inflation Rate Holds at 0.5% in February 2026

According to data from Statistics Sweden, the consumer price index inflation rate remained unchanged at 0.5 percent in February compared to the same month a year earlier. The monthly change from January to February was 0.6 percent.

Price increases for electricity and food, as well as for restaurant visits, were primary contributors to the inflation rate. These were partially offset by continued low interest rate costs. Electricity prices rose by 18 percent compared to the previous year, contributing 0.7 percentage points to the overall inflation rate, the largest single contribution. Higher electricity costs and increased rents for rental apartments drove up housing expenses. However, interest rate costs reduced the inflation rate by 1.0 percentage point, though the decline in rates was less pronounced than in prior periods.

Prices for package holidays and accommodation services increased, as did clothing prices from January to February. Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices also rose, but at a slower pace than previously observed, with meat prices among the categories showing the highest increases. Costs for personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services moved higher.

These upward pressures were counterbalanced by lower prices for information and communication equipment, such as home electronics, as well as for fuel and furniture. Dental care costs also decreased.

The inflation rate according to the consumer price index with a fixed interest rate, a measure monitored by the country's central bank, was 1.7 percent in February, down from 2.0 percent in January. The corresponding rate excluding energy products was 1.4 percent, a decline from 1.7 percent the prior month.
