Carboxylic Acid Price in Spain Contracts 9% to $4,252 per Ton
Spain Carboxylic Acid Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the carboxylic acid price stood at $4,252 per ton (CIF, Spain), reducing by -9% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 31% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $5,682 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($11.0 per kg), while the price for Thailand ($1,796 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+29.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spain Carboxylic Acid Imports
In August 2022, purchases abroad of carboxylic acid with alcohol, phenol, aldehyde or ketone functions decreased by -0.5% to 5K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after two months of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 36% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7.8K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, carboxylic acid imports dropped to $21M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 25% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $30M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Spain Carboxylic Acid Imports by Country
The Netherlands (1.8K tons), China (1.5K tons) and Thailand (507 tons) were the main suppliers of carboxylic acid imports to Spain, with a combined 75% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +39.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest carboxylic acid suppliers to Spain were China ($7.6M), the Netherlands ($3.9M) and Italy ($2M), with a combined 63% share of total imports. Germany, France, Thailand and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +81.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
