U.S. Soap Price Amounts $3,550 per Ton, Falling Notably from its March Maximum

U.S. Soap And Detergent Export Price per Ton August 2022

In August 2022, the soap and detergent price per ton amounted to $3,550, with a decrease of -2.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 9.3% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $3,951 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($5,535 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,206 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

U.S. Soap And Detergent Exports

In August 2022, overseas shipments of soap and detergent decreased by -1.2% to 39K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 40K tons in July 2022, and then shrank modestly in the following month.

In value terms, soap and detergent exports fell slightly to $140M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 20% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $150M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

U.S. Soap And Detergent Exports by Country

Canada (14K tons), Mexico (8.8K tons) and Japan (1.5K tons) were the main destinations of soap and detergent exports from the United States, together accounting for 61% of total exports.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Japan (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Canada ($47M) remains the key foreign market for soap and detergent exports from the United States, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($21M), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 5.4% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Canada amounted to +3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (+7.4% per month) and China (+8.9% per month).
