Scrap Metal Prices: Copper & Brass Up, Others Stable

Several copper and brass grades saw price increases, while many other categories remained stable. The report indicates a day of modest gains concentrated in specific materials.

Multiple copper scrap categories experienced upward movement. Prices for #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, and #1 Copper Bare Bright each increased by $0.12 per Lb. #3 Copper-Light copper prices also rose by $0.12 per Lb. Smaller gains were recorded for #1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery, which were up by $0.03 per Lb each. Copper Radiator scrap prices recorded a jump of $0.05 per Lb. Harness Wire 35% Recovery and Romex Wire prices saw an increase of $0.03 per Lb each. Minor increases were noted for Heater Cores, which edged higher by $0.02 per Lb, and for Scrap Electric Motors, Starters and Sealed units, which edged higher by $0.01 per Lb. Cu Yokes prices reported a slight gain of $0.01 per Lb. The price of Alternator scrap remained flat. Copper Transformer Scrap prices were flat.

Within the brass and bronze segment, several grades posted gains. Prices for 70/30 Brass Scrap, 80/20 Brass Scrap, 85/15 Brass Scrap, and Brass Radiator scrap were up by $0.03 per Lb. Red Brass, Red Borings, and Yellow Brass prices recorded a jump of $0.03 per Lb on the Index. Brass Radiator /Fe and Brass Radiator Ends prices held steady.

A wide range of other scrap metal categories showed no price change. Aluminum grades including 1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels, 6063 Extrusions, 5052 Scrap, and 6061 Extrusions were flat. Prices for Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, Breakage 50% Recovery, Mixed Aluminum Turnings, Old Cast, UBC, Old Sheet, Painted Siding, and Zorba 90% NF were unchanged. Steel and stainless steel items such as Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap, Structural Steel, 304 SS Solid, 304 SS Turning, 309 SS, 310 SS, and 316 SS Solid also saw no movement. Additional categories with stable pricing included Chrome Wheels, Litho Sheets, MLC Clips, Cu/Al Radiator Ends, Cu/Al Radiators, Cu/Al Radiators/Fe, and Xmas Lights.
