Scrap Metal Markets Show Mixed Trends in Weekly Report for March 19, 2026

North American scrap metal markets exhibited a mixed-to-weak trend for the period ending March 19, 2026, according to data from the Scrap Monster Price Index. Most non-ferrous categories saw modest price declines, while ferrous segments remained stable.

Non-Ferrous Metals Mostly Lower

Copper scrap prices trended downward, with specific grades like #1 Copper Bare Bright and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing registering declines. Aluminum scrap prices also generally moved lower, with categories including E.C. Aluminum Wire and 6063 Extrusions recording decreases. Brass and bronze scrap values continued to edge down, and zinc scrap prices recorded declines across categories such as New Zinc Die Cast and Old Zinc Die Cast. In contrast, lead scrap prices remained stable, with no notable fluctuations.

Ferrous Metals Hold Steady

Steel scrap benchmarks showed little movement, with categories like #1 HMS and Shredded Auto Scrap holding at prior levels. Stainless steel scrap prices similarly witnessed no variation, with 304 SS Solid scrap remaining flat. This stability indicated balanced market conditions in these segments.

Market Sentiment and Drivers

Overall market sentiment remained cautious, with limited volatility. Analysts noted that soft end-use demand from downstream industries contributed to the downward pressure on several segments. The presence of unchanged prices in some areas pointed to balanced conditions between recyclers and consumers.
