Recent Supply Chain Layoffs Impact Nearly 4,000 U.S. Workers

A series of workforce reductions across American supply chain operations has impacted nearly 4,000 employees in recent weeks, according to a report from Yahoo Finance. The cuts span multiple industries and states, with the automotive and industrial sectors seeing the most significant reductions.

Automotive and Industrial Sector Impact

The largest single layoff involved an electric vehicle battery manufacturer in Georgia, which reduced its workforce by 958 employees. The company attributed the move to changing demand for electric vehicles as automakers adjust their production strategies. Separately, an auto parts maker undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring announced substantial cuts, including 572 positions in Texas and 333 in Tennessee.

Logistics and Distribution Reductions

Multiple logistics and warehouse operators have also reduced staff. A furniture company is cutting 266 jobs at a Texas distribution center. Other logistics providers have announced layoffs in Alabama, Ohio, and California, with job losses ranging from 71 to 151 per facility. These reductions are linked to client contract losses, site closures, and network consolidation efforts.

Rail and Food Manufacturing Cuts

An intermodal logistics operator is closing a terminal in Ohio, resulting in 115 job losses, after losing major customer contracts. In food manufacturing, a company is repurposing a Texas plant and cutting 205 jobs there. A technology services firm also plans to close a Texas distribution facility, eliminating 60 positions.
