Nvidia GTC 2026 Kicks Off with CEO Keynote on AI and Gaming Roadmap

Nvidia's GTC 2026 conference began in San Jose, California, with a keynote address from CEO Jensen Huang. The presentation provided updates on the firm's plans for the coming year to an audience of developers, analysts, and media members.

Such events have historically featured multiple product announcements, and this gathering was anticipated to follow that pattern. The company has engaged in numerous agreements with other semiconductor and software firms in recent months, and further details on how those technologies are being incorporated were expected.

One notable agreement from the past year involved a nonexclusive deal to utilize inferencing technology from chipmaker Groq. As part of this arrangement, several of Groq's executives, including its founder, joined Nvidia. Groq specializes in processors designed for running artificial intelligence models, which it states offer greater efficiency for this task compared to traditional graphics processing units.

As industry focus shifts more toward running AI models rather than just training them, demand has grown for cost-effective chips to power the software. While Nvidia has promoted the efficiency of its own GPUs, incorporating specialized inference technology could address potential competitive concerns.

Separately, the event was seen as a potential venue for the introduction of a long-rumored laptop central processing unit. Leaked information suggested the company was preparing two such chips with a focus on gaming performance, built on a specific processor architecture. Nvidia's graphics units are popular in gaming, and a CPU could maintain its standing with that market as the company expands its data center operations.

The company has prior experience providing chips for gaming consoles and computers. However, revenue from a new laptop CPU segment would not be expected to immediately rival the substantial sales generated by the company's existing data center and gaming graphics businesses.
