Meta to Charge Advertisers New Fee for Digital Taxes Starting July 2026

Meta Platforms will begin charging advertisers an additional fee to cover digital service taxes levied by certain governments, according to a company announcement reported by Reuters. The fee, which will apply to image and video ads as well as specific marketing campaigns on its platforms, is scheduled to take effect starting July 1, 2026.

The company stated that it had previously absorbed these costs but is now making the change in response to regulatory developments and to follow practices already established within the industry. The charge will be based on the location of the audience viewing the advertisement, not the advertiser's own headquarters or place of business.

Fees will vary by country, with the United Kingdom facing a 2% charge, while France, Italy, and Spain will see a 3% fee. Advertisers reaching audiences in Austria and Turkey will be subject to a 5% location fee. These digital taxes, which are calculated on revenue generated by large technology firms within specific nations, have been a point of contention for the U.S. administration, which views them as discriminatory against American companies.
