Mattress Price in America Constitutes $96 per Unit
U.S. Mattress Import Price July 2022
The average mattress price stood at $96 per unit in July 2022, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 4.3% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $98 per unit in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Spain ($117 per unit), while the price for Turkey ($40 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Mattress Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In July 2022, the product with the highest price was mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics ($100 per unit), while the price for mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics stood at $86 per unit.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics (+0.1%).
U.S. Mattress Imports
In July 2022, the amount of mattresses imported into the United States reduced sharply to 1.1M units, dropping by -20.9% on June 2022 figures. In general, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 22% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.7M units. From April 2022 to July 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mattress imports dropped significantly to $103M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 21% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $158M. From April 2022 to July 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Mattress Imports by Type
In July 2022, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics (722K units) constituted the largest type of mattress supplied to the United States, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics (353K units), twofold.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics amounted to -6.7%.
In value terms, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics ($72M) constituted the largest type of mattress supplied to the United States, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics ($30M), with a 29% share of total imports.
U.S. Mattress Imports by Country
Mexico (298K units), Indonesia (245K units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (124K units) were the main suppliers of mattress imports to the United States, together comprising 62% of total imports. Kosovo, Poland, Spain, Canada, Turkey, the Philippines, Bulgaria and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest mattress suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($32M), Indonesia ($23M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($14M), with a combined 66% share of total imports. Kosovo, Spain, Canada, Poland, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Turkey and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +16.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
