Klarna Reports Q3 Earnings, Outlines Neobank Transition After IPO

According to a report from Yahoo Finance, Klarna, in its first quarterly report since becoming a public company, has detailed three key growth objectives as it aims to transform from a payments company to a neobank. The company's plans include expanding its distribution network, increasing its long-term installment loan penetration with merchants, and becoming a full-fledged neobank.

For the third quarter, Klarna reported record revenue of $903 million, a 28% year-over-year increase that beat analysts' estimates of $885.5 million. The company posted a net loss of $95 million, or 25 cents per diluted share, which was wider than the net loss of $89.9 million or 24 cents per share anticipated by Wall Street analysts. Operating expenses increased 24.5% to $295 million.

Gross merchandise value reached $32.7 billion, a 23% increase from the same period last year. The U.S. market was a significant driver, with gross merchandise value growth of 43% year-over-year and U.S. revenue growth of 51%.

Looking ahead, Klarna expects fourth-quarter GMV to be between $37.5 billion and $38.5 billion, with a revenue outlook of $1.065 billion to $1.08 billion. Keefe Bruyette and Woods analyst Sanjay Sakhrani described this outlook as "conservative, setting up the company to beat expectations." Sakhrani also stated, "Klarna delivered a solid first print out of the gate with revenue growth accelerating sequentially, and revenue and transaction margin dollar (TMD) growth coming ahead of our expectations."

Despite the results, shares were down nearly 6% as of 1:10 p.m. in New York. Wedbush analyst Scott Devitt attributed the decline to "heightened investor caution surrounding the companys exposure to a weaker consumer credit environment and rising loss provisions." Provisions for credit losses increased 18 basis points sequentially to 0.28% of GMV, up from 0.1% of GMV in the second quarter of 2025.

Devitt further commented, "Performance was consistent with managements prior commentary on expected transaction margin pressure in the near-term as Fair Financing volume growth outpaces other areas of the business. Although fair financing loans require a greater provisioning up-front, the benefit of these loans compound as interest revenues are recognized over the life of the loan."
