Italian Steel Production Rises 8.1% in February 2026
Data from Federacciai, reported by SteelOrbis, indicates Italy's steel output grew in February. Production reached 1.86 million tons, an increase of 8.1% from the prior month and a 2.6% rise compared to the same month a year earlier.
The monthly growth was driven by long steel, which saw production of 1.1 million tons, marking a 12.5% monthly and a 5% yearly increase. Conversely, flat steel output for the month was 737,000 tons, declining from both the previous month and the year before.
For the first two months of the year, total steel production stood at 3.6 million tons, which is 2.1% higher than the comparable period in 2025. Long steel production for the two-month period rose by 8.6% year-over-year, while flat steel production fell.
According to GMK Center, Italy's full-year steel production for 2025 increased by 3.6% from 2024, reaching 20.7 million tons. Within that annual total, long steel output grew by 5.5% and flat steel output grew by 3.8%.
This expansion in Italy contrasted with the broader European Union, where overall steel production declined in 2025 compared to the previous year.
