Hong Kong Property Market Recovery: Prices Stabilize as Buyers Return

According to a report from the South China Morning Post, residential property prices in Hong Kong have declined approximately 30 percent from their peak in 2021, though recent data points to a gradual market recovery.

In a move reflecting investor sentiment, Lo Ying-sui, a non-executive director of Great Eagle Holdings and brother of its chairman, has begun selling residential units. A company linked to Lo and his wife sold a residential unit to another firm for a sum equivalent to 2.4 million US dollars in mid-March. Lo Ying-sui holds a medical degree and is a cardiology specialist affiliated with a Hong Kong university's medical faculty.

Analysis from a senior director at property consultancy CBRE suggests some investors are choosing to maintain liquidity due to ongoing uncertainty in property market cycles. Conversely, other investors are adjusting their portfolios as prices show signs of stabilization and buyers re-enter the market. The consultancy noted that with the market's improvement, buyers are now willing to acquire such properties, allowing sellers to avoid potential losses they might have faced in an earlier sale.
