According to a report from Oilprice.com, the aftermath of the Fukushima reactor incident has influenced several European nations to move away from nuclear power generation. Germany, Switzerland, and Italy have all decided to exit nuclear energy. Germany's phase-out is planned to be a gradual process.

In contrast, Taiwan's government is proceeding with plans to build a fourth nuclear power station, facing opposition from political groups including the Democratic Progressive Party. Meanwhile, Romania has published a draft energy strategy covering a multi-decade period to stimulate policy debate.

Interest in African energy resources is growing among Western entities. A proposal has been made to the government of Mozambique for a large-scale natural gas liquefaction facility.

In procurement developments, the United States Department of Defense, a major consumer of oil, is seeking to alter how it obtains its energy supplies. Separately, a pricing disagreement exists between China and the Russian firm Rosneft regarding oil supplied via a specific pipeline, though the Russian company expects a resolution.
