German Service Producer Prices Rose 2.2% in 2025, Led by Administrative Services

Producer prices for services in Germany increased by an average of 2.2 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to the Federal Statistical Office. Prices in the fourth quarter of 2025 rose by 2.1 percent compared to the same quarter a year earlier and by 0.3 percent relative to the third quarter of 2025.

Transportation and Warehousing

Within the transportation and warehousing sector, prices rose moderately by 1.5 percent overall in 2025. However, significant differences existed between sub-sectors. Prices for other postal, courier, and express services saw a particularly sharp increase of 4.9 percent. Road freight transport prices also rose relatively strongly by 2.3 percent. In contrast, prices for goods transport in sea and coastal shipping fell sharply by 10.6 percent. This decline was especially pronounced in the fourth quarter, with a drop of 14.3 percent. Lower demand due to weak economic development, combined with overcapacity in ships and containers at sea, led to reduced freight rates. Consequently, prices for sea freight forwarding services decreased by 12.8 percent, contributing to an overall price decline of 1.5 percent for forwarding services in 2025.

Information and Communication

The information and communication sector experienced a slight price increase of 1.6 percent in 2025. The strongest increases were recorded for software and software licenses at 2.3 percent and for IT consulting and support at 1.8 percent. Prices for wired telecommunications were 1.4 percent higher than the previous year, while wireless telecommunications saw a slight decrease of 0.6 percent.

Real Estate and Housing

Prices in the real estate and housing sector increased by 2.2 percent in 2025. Rents for residential and commercial properties rose by 1.9 percent. Prices for the brokerage and management of real estate increased more strongly, by 2.8 percent.

Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

Prices for professional, scientific, and technical services increased by 2.5 percent in 2025. The strongest price rises were for accounting services at 5.0 percent and legal advisory services at 4.1 percent. Prices for technical, physical, and chemical testing services also rose comparatively strongly by 3.6 percent.

Administrative and Support Services

The administrative and support services sector recorded the strongest price increase among service sectors in 2025, at 3.3 percent. Cleaning service prices rose particularly sharply by 4.9 percent. Prices for the temporary provision of labor also increased above average by 3.5 percent.
