First Turbine Installed at Hai Long 3 Offshore Wind Farm

According to offshoreWIND.biz, the initial turbine for the Hai Long 3 offshore wind phase has been installed. The work was performed by CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering using the installation vessel Sea Challenger.

Hai Long 3 represents the third segment of a multi-phase offshore wind development with a capacity exceeding one gigawatt. The project is located off the coast of Changhua in the Taiwan Strait. A consortium of Northland Power, Gentari, and Mitsui & Co. is developing the initiative.

An earlier phase, Hai Long 2A, was finished and connected to the electrical grid at the end of 2025. That segment uses 21 wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa. Another group of 16 identical turbines for the Hai Long 2B phase was installed the previous year.

The consortium stated that local procurement efforts were expanded to include the 2B and 3 phases, resulting in 73 nacelles being assembled within Taiwan. Assembly for the Hai Long 3 nacelles concluded recently, and they are now being moved to the offshore site. This activity led Siemens Gamesa to enlarge its local nacelle production facility and allowed nine regional suppliers to achieve certification, integrating them into a wider supply network.

All jacket foundations for the entire Hai Long development have been installed, a process completed last August. Different manufacturers supplied the foundations for the various phases. The project is anticipated to reach full commercial operation in 2027.
