Feeder Cattle Prices and Market Report for March 2026

According to a USDA AMS MyMarketNews report, feeder cattle transactions occurred at several livestock markets. In St. Joseph, Missouri, a market handled a Tuesday volume of 7,960 head. At that location, prices for feeder steers weighing between 600 and 700 pounds ranged, while feeder heifers in the 500 to 600 pound category also traded within a range. Heavier steers and heifers in various weight categories saw different price levels.

Another market in Kingsville, Missouri, reported a Tuesday head count of 1,428. There, lighter feeder steers and heifers commanded higher prices per hundredweight, with values declining for heavier animals. A third market in El Reno, Oklahoma, listed a Tuesday volume of 1,400 head, with prices provided for multiple weight categories of both steers and heifers.

Futures and Commodity Markets Show Mixed Movements

Live cattle futures for April, June, and August contracts saw increases on Tuesday. Feeder cattle futures for March, April, and May contracts also rose. In grain markets, May corn futures were unchanged, while July corn experienced a slight decline. May soybean futures increased marginally, with later contracts also rising. Wheat futures for May, July, and September contracts all declined.

Slaughter and Boxed Beef Data Reported

The estimated daily cattle slaughter for Tuesday was reported at 109,000 head. This figure was slightly higher than the estimated total for the same day in the previous week. The estimated slaughter volume for the year-ago period was higher. The weekly-to-date estimated slaughter was also provided. For boxed beef, the daily estimated cutout value for Choice graded beef was reported, as was the value for Select graded beef. Load counts for various beef product categories were listed.

In Oklahoma City, prices for slaughter cows were reported across different lean percentage categories. The report also included a section for the CME Feeder Cattle Index and references to weekly cutout values and futures settlements from major exchanges.
