This parity follows a five-year period where UPS's valuation declined by 40% while FedEx's increased by 15%, indicating a shift in Wall Street's assessment of the two delivery rivals.

UPS has been engaged in a significant business overhaul with the express goal of becoming a smaller and more nimble operation. This effort has included divesting older assets, investing in new facilities and technology, and reducing its workforce. The company has also shifted away from customers who ship large volumes but generate low profits. FedEx has also implemented changes, though they have been less dramatic in scale.

Valuation and Turnaround Prospects

UPS anticipates that 2026 will represent an inflection point in its turnaround, expecting stronger performance in the second half of the year. In 2025, the company showed early progress as its revenue per piece increased in the U.S. market even as total revenues declined, aligning with its strategic refocus on more profitable customers and assets. Improved financial performance could lead to a higher valuation from investors.
