Eni's 2026-2030 Strategy: Production Growth and Transition Business Expansion

An Italian energy company has detailed a new five-year strategic plan, according to a report from Yahoo Finance. The strategy aims to increase production, expand its portfolio in the energy transition, and deliver greater returns to shareholders through enhanced cash generation and reduced leverage.

The plan is built on a dual-track model that involves growing its conventional oil and gas operations while also accelerating the development of separate transition-focused units. Over the period from 2026 to 2030, the firm anticipates generating over 40 billion euros in free cash flow, which will support higher dividends, share repurchases, and ongoing investment.

Within its exploration and production division, the company reports having its strongest-ever project pipeline. It forecasts production growth of three to four percent annually through the end of the decade, supported by assets in multiple global regions including Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, and Norway.

Recent project approvals in Indonesia and a planned liquefied natural gas initiative in Argentina highlight a continued emphasis on gas and LNG markets. The company also noted its leading position in floating LNG technology.

Since 2014, the firm has discovered more than 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent, with 60 percent of those discoveries already converted into production or sold. This performance is cited as a marker of a capital-efficient exploration approach.

Alongside its hydrocarbon business, the company is expanding its energy transition platforms. One subsidiary is targeting 15 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity by 2030, a significant increase from its capacity at the end of 2025, while also aiming to grow its customer base. A planned deconsolidation and capital increase are intended to accelerate this unit's growth.

Another subsidiary is scaling its biofuel production capacity, with a target of 5 million tonnes per year by 2030. Sustainable aviation fuel is expected to be a growing component. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization from this segment are projected to triple.

Collectively, these transition businesses have already attracted external investment that values them at more than 23 billion euros, supporting a model of partially divested, self-funding subsidiaries.

The financial framework for the plan projects cash flow from operations to reach roughly 17 billion euros by 2030, representing a 14 percent compound annual growth rate on a per-share basis.
