Elon Musk's $1 Trillion Tesla Pay Package: AI Weighs In

Tesla's proposed compensation package for CEO Elon Musk is contingent on the company achieving a set of extremely ambitious financial and operational milestones, including reaching an $8.5 trillion market capitalization and $400 billion in adjusted EBITDA, alongside extensive deployments of robotaxis, Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscriptions, AI Optimus robots, and electric vehicle sales. According to a source, three major AI chatbots were asked to analyze the likelihood of Musk eventually accruing $1 trillion worth of Tesla shares if the new pay package is approved, yielding widely divergent predictions.

Grok, the AI from Musk's own xAI company, was the most optimistic. It estimated a 70% chance Tesla meets its vehicle delivery threshold, a 35% chance for the FSD subscriber goal, and gave 80% and 50% odds for the Optimus robot and robotaxi milestones, respectively. For the financial targets, Grok assigned a 30% likelihood for achieving the $400 billion EBITDA and a 25% chance of reaching the $8.5 trillion market cap. Initially projecting a 15% overall chance of Musk hitting all targets for the full payout within a decade, Grok revised its probability to 25% after analyzing Tesla's SEC filing.

ChatGPT offered a more moderate, yet still pessimistic, outlook. It provided a 20% probability for the delivery goal and 25% for FSD subscribers. The chatbot was most confident in the robotaxi deployment, at 40%, and gave a 30% chance for the bot milestone. For the critical financial metrics, ChatGPT estimated just a 10% chance of Tesla achieving the $400 billion EBITDA target and a mere 5% likelihood of attaining the $8.5 trillion market valuation. Its overall calculation gave Musk a 2% chance of meeting every requirement.

Google's Gemini presented the most negative analysis, framing all its probabilities as "less than" certain thresholds. It estimated less than a 10% chance for vehicle deliveries, less than 20% for FSD subscribers, and less than 15% and 5% for the bot and robotaxi goals, respectively. For the EBITDA and market cap targets, Gemini gave Tesla less than a 5% chance for each. It concluded that the overall odds of Musk meeting every single goal were "effectively zero," later stating that providing a numerical probability was impossible due to too many unpredictable variables. Data from the IndexBox platform indicates that such extreme growth would require an unprecedented and sustained expansion in both production volume and profitability across Tesla's business lines and new ventures.

The proposed pay package is structured to allow Musk to unlock partial compensation for hitting incremental targets. For instance, the market capitalization milestones begin at a $2 trillion valuation, with subsequent tiers at every additional $500 billion up to $6.5 trillion, and then every additional $1 trillion up to the final $8.5 trillion goal. The EBITDA milestones follow a similar graduated structure, starting at $50 billion and culminating in the requirement to sustain $400 billion over three distinct four-quarter periods.
