Daily Scrap Metal Index: Copper Down, Aluminum Up as of March 11

According to a report from Scrapmonster, daily scrap metal prices in North America presented a varied picture as of March 11. Several copper categories experienced price declines, while numerous aluminum grades saw increases, and other major segments remained stable.

The prices for multiple copper products, including #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, #1 Copper Bare Bright, and #3 Copper-Light Copper, each decreased. Copper Radiator scrap also recorded a lower price. In contrast, prices for #1 Insulated Copper Wire, #2 Insulated Copper Wire, Copper Transformer scrap, and Cu Yokes held steady.

Aluminum scrap prices broadly moved higher. The 1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels, and 6063 Extrusions categories all increased. Prices for 5052 Scrap and 6061 Extrusions also rose. Aluminum Radiators, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery each edged higher. More significant increases were noted for E.C Aluminum Wire, Chrome Wheels, Old Cast, and UBC. Mixed Aluminum Turnings saw a smaller gain. Categories including Al/Cu Radiators reported no change.

Ferrous and stainless steel prices were largely unchanged. Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap, and Structural Steel saw no movement. Several stainless steel grades, including 304 SS Solid, 304 SS Turning, 309 SS, 310 SS, and 316 SS Solid, also recorded no variation from prior levels.

In the brass and bronze segment, all listed categories, including Brass/Bronze Scrap, Brass Radiator /Fe, Brass Radiator Ends, Red Brass, Red Borings, and Yellow Brass, maintained their previous price levels.
