The ProShares Ultra S&P 500 ETF and the Direxion Daily S&P 500 Bull 3X ETF seek to deliver two times and three times the daily returns of the index, respectively, through the use of derivatives.

The Direxion fund carries a slightly lower expense ratio than the ProShares offering. It also shows a marginally higher dividend yield. The top holdings within the triple-leveraged fund mirror the largest positions in the S&P 500 index.

These products increase potential earnings compared to a standard index ETF but also elevate risk. The fund targeting triple daily returns offers greater profit potential alongside significantly higher risk. Due to the effects of daily leverage compounding, these instruments are typically held for very short durations, often a single trading day or a few days at most.
