CNOOC Awards Major Subsea Contract to OneSubsea for Kaiping 18-1 Field

China National Offshore Oil Corporation has granted an integrated engineering, production, and construction contract to OneSubsea, according to a report from Offshore Energy. The agreement covers subsea production systems for a deepwater field development involving twenty wells.

The contract is for the Kaiping 18-1 field in the South China Sea. OneSubsea will provide standardized technology including dual electric submersible pump, gas lift and gas injection horizontal trees, along with manifolds, connectors, and control systems. The company will also offer installation and commissioning support.

The subsea architecture aims to lower system complexity and improve operational efficiencies, while also accommodating potential future expansions. The integrated delivery model is intended to shorten installation timelines and reduce the need for offshore vessels. Project execution will involve collaboration with regional partners to bolster local manufacturing and supply-chain capacity.

This contract represents the third such award announced by OneSubsea within a month. Previous recent contracts include work with Equinor on the Gullfaks field in the North Sea and a deepwater project offshore Malaysia for PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited. Earlier this month, the company also indicated plans to grow its technology and research capabilities through an acquisition.

The Kaiping South oilfield discovery was announced at the start of 2024. The field is situated at an average water depth of around 500 meters.
