China's Economy Demonstrates Resilience with Strong Trade and Energy Security

An analysis presented at a forum hosted by the All-China Journalists Association, as reported by China Daily, highlighted the current state of the Chinese economy. A special researcher from the Counsellors Office of the State Council noted that the country is taking strategic steps to strengthen domestic stability as a response to external volatility. The researcher stated that while global conditions remain complex, China has maintained a measured approach during its extended period of economic expansion.

The resilience of the economy was partly illustrated by foreign trade performance. The total value of imports and exports for the previous year was reported at 45.47 trillion yuan, resulting in a trade surplus of 8.51 trillion yuan. More recent data from the national customs administration indicates that foreign trade volume grew significantly year-on-year in the first two months of the current year. During this period, exports increased by 19.2 percent and imports rose by 17.1 percent.

Several foundational reasons were cited for this trade strength. The first is an industrial ecosystem that includes all major industrial categories and sub-sectors as defined by international standards, creating a comprehensive supply chain. The second is a production capacity that allows for high output at minimized costs. The third involves substantive support from local authorities in areas like client development and product launches.

Beyond trade, the nation's energy structure was presented as a further buffer against external shocks. Coal forms the foundation of energy security, with production reaching 4.8 billion metric tons last year and supporting fully operational conversion technology. This base is supplemented by expanded capacity in renewable sources including solar, hydropower, and wind. The analysis concluded that this structure mitigates the potential economic impact of rising oil prices.
