Video Monitor Price in China Bottoms at $135 per Unit After Two Consecutive Months of Decline

China Video Monitor Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the video monitor price amounted to $135 per unit (FOB, China), declining by -2.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 4.9% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $158 per unit. From March 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($180 per unit), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($32.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

China Video Monitor Exports

For the third month in a row, China recorded decline in shipments abroad of video monitors, which decreased by -5.7% to 12M units in September 2022. Overall, exports saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when exports increased by 16% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 14M units in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, video monitor exports shrank to $1.6B (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when exports increased by 19% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $2.2B. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

China Video Monitor Exports by Country

The United States (3.2M units) was the main destination for video monitor exports from China, with a 27% share of total exports. Moreover, video monitor exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (1.1M units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (639K units), with a 5.4% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States stood at -2.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-7.9% per month) and India (+0.6% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($487M) remains the key foreign market for video monitor exports from China, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($192M), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 4.8% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States amounted to -3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-8.1% per month) and Japan (-5.0% per month).

Factors Affecting Video Monitor Prices

Video monitor prices in China have been on the rise in recent years, due in part to increased demand from domestic and international buyers. A number of factors have contributed to this trend, including a growing middle class in China with more discretionary income, and a strengthening Chinese economy that has supported higher prices for goods and services.

Demand for video monitors has also been driven by the expansion of the e-commerce sector in China. Online shopping is now a major force in the Chinese retail market, and video monitors are one of the most popular items purchased online. The convenience and selection offered by online retailers has made them a preferred choice for many consumers, leading to higher overall demand for these products.

Supply constraints have also played a role in pushing up prices for video monitors in China. A limited number of manufacturers produce these products, making it difficult to meet rising demand. This has resulted in higher prices for finished goods as well as increased costs for raw materials and components.
