Radiator Export in China Reduces Markedly to $9M in April 2023

In April 2023, the amount of radiators for central heating (not electrically heated) exported from China shrank rapidly to 3.8K tons, with a decrease of -18.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 98% month-to-month.

In value terms, radiator exports fell markedly to $9M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 with an increase of 110% month-to-month.

Exports by Country

The UK (1.9K tons) was the main destination for radiator exports from China, accounting for a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, radiator exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (653 tons), threefold. The United States (305 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.1% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the UK was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Russia (+6.8% per month) and the United States (-0.8% per month).

In value terms, the UK ($4.9M) remains the key foreign market for radiator exports from China, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($1.2M), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.8% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the UK totaled -1.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Russia (+8.7% per month) and the United States (-0.6% per month).

Exports by Type

Radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of iron or steel other than cast iron (2.6K tons) was the largest type of radiator exported from China, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of iron or steel other than cast iron exceeded the volume of the second product type, radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of cast iron (1.2K tons), twofold.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of iron or steel other than cast iron was relatively modest.

In value terms, radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of iron or steel other than cast iron ($6.9M) remains the largest type of radiator exported from China, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of cast iron ($2.1M), with a 23% share of total exports.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of radiators and parts thereof; for central heating, (not electrically heated), of iron or steel other than cast iron was relatively modest.

Export Prices by Country

In April 2023, the radiator price stood at $2,398 per ton (FOB, China), standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 29% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,748 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to April 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,549 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($1,268 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
