China's June 2023 Exports of Motorized Bicycles With Side Cars Soar to $475M
China Motorcycle Side Car Exports
Exports of cycles with auxiliary motors and side cars from China expanded notably to 1.5M units in June 2023, rising by 11% against the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when exports increased by 107% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 1.9M units in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of cycles with auxiliary motors and side cars rose markedly to $475M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 104% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at 583M units in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure. Exports by Country
The United States (380K units) was the main destination for exports of cycles with auxiliary motors and side cars from China, with a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of cycles with auxiliary motors and side cars to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (79K units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (62K units), with a 4.2% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States stood at -1.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (+1.3% per month) and the Netherlands (-4.5% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($132M) remains the key foreign market for cycle with auxiliary motor and side car exports from China, comprising 28% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($24M), with a 5.1% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 4.2% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (-0.2% per month) and the Netherlands (-5.3% per month).
Export Prices by Country
In June 2023, the motorcycle side car price amounted to $324 per unit (FOB, China), reducing by -3.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $386 per unit in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($429 per unit), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($168 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
